I like it on the whereverOk. So. Recently the breast cancer awareness program, as part of its publicity campaign, encourages people (well, females I guess were the target population) to spread this message 'I like it on the...' Hang on this is too troublesome to explain. Basically the message goes like this (this is what the copy and paste function is for after all lol): "Last year, the idea was to post the colour of the bra you were wearing on facebook...and it left men wondering for days, why women were posting colours, seemingly at random. This year's game has to do with your handbag/purse, where we put our handbag the moment we get home; for example "I like it on the couch", "I like it on the kitchen counter", "I like it on the dresser". Well u get the idea" Ok. So. Someone I know was condemning this. Well let me quote, "Sorry, but I don't like all those viral "I like it at ..." status updates; repeated ad nauseam, digresses from the MAIN cause; and causes like this don't warrant a need to act so coy and figuratively suggestive!" Well, if you ask me, 1) The fact that it was 'viral' implies that it was probably repeated over and over by different people (and it did, I saw it myself =,=) which means that the campaign was, for the most part successful in garnering awareness. Which is its main purpose 2)And if it is successful in getting people's attention, how exactly does it DIGRESS from the MAIN cause? 3)If you ask an innocent kid, what this 'it' is he would tell you that 'it' can refer to any object. It is only 'coy' and 'figuratively suggestive' in the mind of the beholder. And whose fault is this? Isn't it fundamentally OUR problem? That our less than innocent mind interprete it in the worst possible context. If the 'I like it on the...' statement degrades woman, it degrades woman only because society itself is decadent. And surely there are LOADS of things to blame for this than a mere advertisement. If you can't climb a mountain, it is not the fault of the mountain for being too high, it is your own fault for not having a strong enough leg to do it.
